AMELIA
May I draw your attention to some text written by my pal Amelia Stein. It was originally commissioned to go alongside a story about me for a magazine but the silly buggers never ran it.
She's pretty, pretty good. So please go and peruse her website right... NOW!

SOMETIMES HE JUST NEEDS QUIET
When talking about someone you love, the risk is that it will sound like a eulogy. Friends of Sam’s and mine have already imagined what the world would be like without him, and written about that. Real journalists have discussed his work with a level of sophistication I probably can’t achieve. I know him too well. I can’t be objective.
With a good friend, the right kind of friend, you feel like they are the best part of you. In turn, you have a stake in them and everything they do. Sam made a decision to preserve the integrity of each photograph by only producing single prints and destroying the negative once the work was sold. Of course, this wasn’t my decision to make, but it was something I had to know about – something I had to help him consider.
Right now feels like it should be a time to reveal a big secret about my friend Sam. I could talk about what we were both doing on the night we met, or what we talked about this morning, or last week. But sharing anecdotes would rely on the kind of false intimacy Sam works so hard to avoid.
I want to keep things sincere, so I will say this: if you want to know what Sam is about, flip through these pages. Go to his shows. Get through his whole website. Call him. Look at his work however you can. That’s where the real truth is.
